Where I'm From
I am from big screen televisions,
from Nike and Hershey.
I am from the street that not much people passed,
from the front yard that fluttered with flowers during the spring and was snow covered during the winter.
I am from a porch that held just about everything -
Empty boxes,
Unused child toys,
Lawn Chairs,
A dirty bed that resembled a chair you would see in pyschologist's office.
A dirty bed that was pink, yellow, rusty, and quite dingy due to how many birthdays it spent on the porch.
A dirty bed that no one bothered to throw away,
a dirty bed that was refused to be sat on.
A dirty bed that for some reason attracted cats.
I am from a house that was never quiet,
A house that was infected with siblings.
Siblings who had annoyance as their greatest strength.
Siblings that were all boys,
Two of whom were twins, though you couldn't tell.
One was dark skinned, shorter than the other, and had groups of overweight pimples that danced
across his face,
While the other was light skinned, a tad bit taller,
thicker, and actually had brushed hair.
And then there was another one that had all three
of us beat in age.
I am from a house where "Shut up", "Don't do
that!", and "Leave him alone" dominated.
I am from peanut M&Ms and the color green,
from drawing and playing softball.
I'm from friends that I used to know,
and friends that are still by my side.
I am from applesauce, chocolate, and candy that
wouldn't mind rotting your teeth.
I am from Nike and Hershey,
and big screen televisions.
